This will help until you become experienced enough to use it well. Nothing is as bad as getting that perfect shot lined up (that you only have one chance to take) and it develops out of focus. When mastering zoom features, or using a zoom lens, it is important to be able to focus your shot, be manually or relying on an auto focus feature. The best way to master lighting is to take a lot of pictures with varied light. Using this kind of trial and error is the only way to find what works best for you.
